Welcome to my website. My name is Jim Pryts, and I am an almost retired professional photographer. For about 28 years I plied my trade in and around the northern California city of Napa. Napa is the seat of the county that shares the same name, and is about an hours drive north of San Francisco. The Napa Valley is best known for its many wineries, but I remember it as the place where I spent 45 years of my life, with or without the the wine. I no longer live in the Napa Valley. Nowadays, my wife, Marlene and I are in The Dalles, Oregon, working what will be our final stint as cogs in the great wheel. In the 19th century The Dalles was literally the end of the Oregon Trail, and is right across the Columbia River from Washington State. The Columbia River Gorge separates the two states along Oregon's northern border, and The Dalles is near the point at which the lush green forests of the Cascade Range give way to the semi-arid lands of Oregon's interior region. Lewis and Clark neared the end of their tour of discovery here. Alas, my wife and I are in this land only temporarily, for in about 6 years we will quit our jobs and build a house on our property in Pennsylvania. At that point we will truly retire. I'll grow a garden, or lose myself in some other idle pastime with my banjo on my knee, and Marlene will raise miniature Nubian goats, and spin a lot. Within the pages of this website will be found, as time goes by, photographs, lyrics, poetry, and commentary of sorts. All of it will be my own, and I may wander a bit, posting a photo here, a poem there, probably in no chronological order, with little regard to location or noteworthiness. I can do that . . . it's my website. Welcome to this little filling station on the information super highway. You are free to love or hate it's content; embrace my point of view, or leave it alone. Frankly, I don't care one way or another, but you're welcome to stop in anyway.
